ANNUAL BANQUET ANNOUNCED
The
Arkansas River Valley Tri-Peaks Annual Banquet will
be held Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at
Lake Dardanelle State Park 100 State Park Drive,
Russellville, AR. The format of the upcoming event
is a party ambiance allowing guests the opportunity
to socialize.
Tyrone Williamson, Mayor of Russellville, will be
the guest speaker this year and vocals will be by
Christi Williams of Russellville. There will be
food as well as a silent and live auction.
Awards will be given to an individual or to an
organization in each of the six counties for
Tourism Person or Organization of the Year. There
will also be a Charlie Johnson Award given.
Tickets to the banquet are $25.00 each and are
available at the Arkansas River Valley Tri-Peaks
office (101 N. Johnson St. Clarksville). You can
also purchase tickets from any of our Board of

Fire Safety Awareness Parade & Kidsfest Safety
Fair

Saturday,
October 6, 2007 The Fire Safety Awareness
Parade will start at 10:00 a.m. Kidsfest Safety
Fair will follow the parade and will be held at the
Marvin Vinson Center. Children may see fire trucks
and other emergency vehicles up close, meet the
firefighters and other personnel and have their
pictures taken with Sparky and Sparkles the
Dalmatian. A fire safety house will be on site for
children ages 5-10. Project Kid Print will be
providing a child identification kit. You can visit
with the Johnson County Sheriffs Dept.,
Clarksville Police Dept., Johnson Co. EMS and many
others. Witness a Fly-by by Air Evac at
noon.

AHA Awards $38,500 in
Scholarships
The Arkansas
Hospitality Association (AHA), the official voice of the
restaurant, lodging and tourism industry in the state,
recently awarded $38,500 in scholarships to Arkansas
students planning careers in the hospitality industry.
The grants were awarded through AHAs non-profit
education arm, the Hospitality and Tourism Education
Foundation, and are intended to provide opportunities for
professional training and career advancement for students
pursuing jobs in culinary arts, restaurant and hotel
management and other hospitality fields.
A majority of the funds are raised during the live and
silent auctions held at the annual Governors
Conference on Tourism.
The tourism and hospitality industry is big business,
and one of the fastest growing sectors of the American
economy, said Montine McNulty, AHA executive director.
Thats why the Arkansas Hospitality Association
is dedicated to developing a skilled workforce to support
the industrys future growth in our
state.

the Meadowbrook Nature Trail. Youll see some of the
greatest childrens Halloween stories come to life
through costumed storytellers along the decorated nature
trail. Wear your costume and bring a camera for unique photo
opportunities. The event isnt designed to scare or
frighten; its family fun to help you enjoy the holiday
in the great outdoors!

Center Inducts First Two into Beaux Arts Academy

The award for
2007 Beaux Arts Academy will be
similar to this piece of art
The Arkansas River
Valley Arts Center will induct a 2007 Artist and Patron of
the Arts into the newly created Beaux Arts Academy. The
first artist to be inducted is Lodema Jensen. Jensen is a
well-known artist, not only locally, but in many cities and
states across the nation where her work graces the private
collections in homes and corporate offices. She has lived in
several states and Mexico and the southwest influence is
apparent in many of her paintings. The first Patron of the
Arts award goes to Simmons First Bank. The bank has
been a Corporate Partner in Education for many years and
supports the Arts Centers programs and projects. CEO Ron
Jackson and his wife, Susan, are also very strong supporters
of the arts and cultural programs in the River Valley,
said Dennis Overman, president of the Arts Center Board of
Directors and co-chair of the event. The induction ceremony
will be part of the 2007 Fall in Love with the Arts,
Thursday, October 11, 2007. The event will be held at the
Arts Center from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Call the Arts Center at

Landscape Construction
Workshop to be held at Rockefeller Institute
Petit Jean
Mountain, AR- Emilys Bridge, Jordons Crossing,
The Butterfly Garden, the water feature at the Boathouse.
These are all attractions at the Winthrop Rockefeller
Institute of the University of Arkansas System resulted from
its previous Landscape Construction Workshop.
The Rockefeller Institute will hold its second Landscape
Construction Workshop October 26 & 27. The dinner
program begins Friday at 6 p.m. The workshop continues
Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m.
The registration deadline for the workshop is October 19. To

including the Rockefeller Institutes new
Presidents Lodge with deluxe rooms.
Participants will be able to dine at the new River Rock
Grill, which opens to the public October 9. Other fall
additions to the Rockefeller Institute include the Legacy
Gallery, a five-room historical gallery depicting of the
life Governor Winthrop Rockefeller, the Legacy Theater, an
area where viewers use a keypad to select DVDs ranging
from documentaries about Governor Rockefeller to films about
archeology, and a Gift Shop.
The Winthrop Rockefeller Institutes primary purpose is
to support diverse activities that will improve the lives of
all Arkansans.

account executive. Woods will work primarily with the
