Annual Oark Heritage Day, May
20th
Each
year Arkansans are encouraged to celebrate,
discover and enjoy our heritage during the month
of May. Since 1982, Arkansans have celebrated
with festivals, special studies, concerts, tours
and more.
This
year, Oark invites you to join their celebration
on the Oark School Campus. Their Heritage Day is
a variety of events with special attention to
each year's theme. This year's theme Arkansas
Arts: Discover Our Treasurers.
Many
activities are already planned for this year's
event, including an informal museum, civil war
re-enactments, photography/art contest, three
legged race, strongest man/woman contest and
horse shoe games just to name a
few.
The
Second Arkansas Rifles will be presenting a
living history this year. They plan to have an
encampment to show how the civil war soldier
survived during the war. All will be in
authentic costume, and they really enjoy sharing
their knowledge of the Civil War and Arkansas'
part in the war.
Still on the Hill will be one of many
performing at the Oark Heritage Day Celebration.
The celebrated Ozark folk duo Still on the Hill,
tours the U.S., Canada and Europe. Kelly
Mulhollan and Donna Stjerna are both O.M.A. and
N.A.M.A. winners for Best Guitar, Best Violin,
Best Songwriter and as Hall of Fame Winners for
Best Folk Band. They are a virtual crazy quilt
in sound and texture, heartwarming and
exhilarating, a must see at the Oark Heritage
Day!

Still on the
Hill
Meet "He
Who Sees the Hidden" and his wife "Running

Chisum, also known as "Running Spirit" or
"Spring Flower", lives in the heart of the Ozark
Mountains. They have a sweat lodge, which is a
sacred place of prayer for families and their
people. Harvie is known as a Cherokee
