1st Annual Creek Fest Countdown!!!
By:
Vicki Lyons, Exec. Director Clarksville Chamber
Clarksville,
Arkansas- There are only twenty one days
left to Creek Fest. It has been a whirlwind year
getting ready for what will become one of the best
festivals in the state. There will be something for
all ages. Family oriented is what this festival is
all about.
There will be local entertainers that will blow
your socks off. If you don't believe it, come hear
On the Verge, The Davis Sisters, or Spit N' Image
just to name a few. Entertainers based in Arkansas
include: The Happy Tymes Jazz Band, Stardust Big
Band and Still on the Hill. Don't forget to bring
your dancing shoes and a comfy chair because you
will definitely need them.
Now you say, "What is there for the children to
do?" Well let's see, those in-flatables will sure
be fun. Or, they could climb to the top of the
twenty foot climbing wall. Maybe even do the limbo
or hula-hoop, go fishing or be an artist. I bet the
"creek kids" can find plenty to do.
Now, don't forget to stroll through the "Creek
Fest" Food Court to check out the local cuisine and
get some good homemade cooking. Hey, you might also
want to taste test one of the Dutch Oven
specialties from the Dutch Oven Exhibition.
Also, don't forget to bring your pocket books to
spend money with the many arts/crafts, commercial
and non-profit vendors. Not only will you find
things that you can't live without, but gifts for
all of your friends and loved ones.
Let's start Sunday morning out right! Bright and
early we will kick off the first Sunrise Service on
the creek with our featured speaker, Donna Douglas,
"Elly May Clampett" of the Beverly Hillbillies
television show and individuals and groups from
over fourteen Johnson County churches.
So, come on out to the Creek Fest starting the
evening of June 22nd and ending on Sunday, June
24th. SEE YOU THERE!

PETIT JEAN STATE PARK FISHING DERBY
June is National Kids
Fishing Month!
Grab your fishing gear and the kids- It's time to go
fishing!
Petit Jean State Park and the Arkansas Game and Fish
Commission are sponsoring an exciting, fun-filled day of
fishing that kids will remember for a lifetime. Kids under
16 are invited to test their fishing skills on Lake Bailey
in Petit Jean State Park from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Pre-registration will be available at the Petit Jean Visitor
Information Center, and registration will be held on June 9
from 8:00-9:00 am at the Boathouse. Both are located in the
park on Arkansas Highway 154.

Petit Jean State Park is excited about this year's fishing
derby. Spending the day fishing with a child is always a
wonderful opportunity, and the thrill of catching a fish
will be remembered for a lifetime. We expect another record
turnout this year, and there will be plenty of fish waiting
to be caught. While the Fishing Derby is for kids only,
parents are encouraged to accompany their children to the
derby and to spend the rest of the weekend enjoying the
fishing and spending quality time with their children. We
look forward to seeing you there!
FYI- Park Update
The pool is now open
from 12-6 pm daily. The Boat House is also now open daily
from 9 am - 5 pm.

11th Annual Mt. Magazine
International Butterfly Festival June 22-23

Arkansas' newest State Park of 2,200 acres offers cooler
summertime temperatures due to the elevation of 2,753 feet
above sea level. These cooler temperatures are a nature
lover's paradise, as well as nature's paradise. The
altitude, geography and climate combine to create unique
habitats for rare plants, animals and the Diana Fritillary
butterfly.
Lured by the many species of enchanting butterflies found on
Mt. Magazine, enthusiasts gathered from around the world to
participate in the first annual Mt. Magazine Butterfly
Festival in 1997. Since that time, the festival has
continued to grow, and thousands of people from 45 states
and half dozen countries have attended the festival.
The festival officially begins Friday, June 22nd at noon
downtown Paris. For more information call the Paris Chamber
at 479-963-2244.
June 7th is Family Fun Day at Lake Dardanelle State
Park
Join the folks at Lake Dardanelle
State Park for a Dutch Oven Cooking Workshop, Fishing
Olympics, Scavenger Hunt and Nature Bingo. And at dark there
will be a Sunset Cinema Presentation by Russellville
Advertising & Promotion Commission.

As the sun sets on beautiful Lake Dardanelle, enjoy the
lights rising on a big screen outdoor movie! Bring your
family, some lawn chairs, blankets, or plop right down on
the lush green grass. Popcorn and sodas will be sold for
only $1 a piece. Contact the park to reserve a spot or for
more information at 479-967-5516
