Ozark National Forest Campsites:

1.

Haw Creek Falls, 14 miles north from Hagarville on Arkansas 123. Small mountain stream with picturesque falls, rocks, bluffs. Canoeing on Big Piney Creek nearby and access to Ozark Highlands Trail.

2.

Horsehead Lake, 8 miles north of Clarksville. 98-acre lake and three-mile hiking loop.

3.

Wolfpen, 22 miles northwest of Clarksville on Highway 103, then west on Forest Road 1003 for two miles. Mulberry River canoeing and access to the Ozark Highlands Trail.

4.

Ozone, 18 miles north of Clarksville. Situated in tall pine timber, site of old Ozone Civilian Conservation Corps Camp. Access to Ozark Highlands Trail.


Lake Dardanelle State Park - Spreads to three different lakeside areas on Lake Dardanelle (Russellville, Dardanelle, Ouita). Campsites, electricity, restrooms and showers, dump station, picnic sites, pavilions, trails and a marina.

Lake Dardanelle Campsite Area;

Piney Bay, 74 sites with swim beach on Big Piney Creek.

Spadra Park, two miles south of Clarksville on Arkansas 103 has 36 sites, boat dock, pavilion, marina and restaurant.

Flat Rock, 15 sites on Big Piney Creek.

4.

Horsehead Park, 10 sites on the Arkansas River.

5.

Cabin Creek, nine sites near Knoxville.


Mount Nebo Camping - Hiking trails.

Toadsuck Park - 48 camping sites, five public shelters, three playgrounds and boat launching.

South Fourche Recreation Area - Six primitive campsites and floating, Hollis, USFS Ouachita National Forest. River floating is not served by any outfitters and is seasonal, check the Hollis South Fourche River gauge.

Ozark Highlands National Recreation Trail - Over 34 miles of this trail traverses northern Johnson County. The trail intersects with the Ozark Highlands National Scenic Byway (Highway 21) at Ozone.

Lake Sylvia Recreation Area - The 17 - acre lake is centerpiece for a variety of family activities, including swimming, camping, fishing, trails and evening interpretive programs in the summer.

Hiking and Biking in the Arkansas River Valley Tri-Peaks
Petit Jean State Park - Arkansas' first state park and one of the most popular, encompassing 3,471 acres of rare natural beauty. Facilities include cabins, Mather Lodge, campsites, fishing lake, swimming pool, hiking trails, interpretive programs, gift shop and the only state park-operated airport. Focal point is Cedar Falls, one of the highest and prettiest waterfalls in the South.

Mount Magazine State Park - Arkansas' Newest State Park. The highest point in Arkansas is located 16 miles south of Paris on Scenic 309 Byway, rising from the Ozark National Forest at 2,753 feet above sea level. Mount Magazine offers tourists not only the serenity of its natural beauty with scenic overlooks and historical significance, but also provides areas to tourists for camping, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, hang gliding, rock climbing and rappelling. On a clear day, you can see 40 miles.

Iron Springs Recreation Area - Picnicking facilities and access to the 4.3 mile Hunts Loop Trail along Scenic 7 Byway.

Nimrod Lake Recreation Area - Fishing, water-skiing, camping, picnicking and swimming at this Corps of Engineers lake just south of Plainview. 126 campsites, full-service camping and boat ramps,. Great for bass, crappie and other panfish. Also motorcycle trails.

Cypress Creek, Bigelow - Corps of Engineers park on the Arkansas River offers campsites, facilities and boat ramps.

Mount Nebo State Park - Arkansas' second highest state park is atop Mount Nebo just west of Dardanelle. Cabins, campsites, hiking trails with scenic overlooks, visitor center, swimming pool, and more

Cherokee and Sequoyah Parks - In Conway County, located near Lock and Dam #9 on the Arkansas River. Camping, fishing, picnic areas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Old Post Road Park - Arkansas River park has 40 full-service campsites and additional day use areas. Playground, lighted tennis and basketball courts, and soccer and softball fields.
Swimming at Long Pool is a favorite of the locals
National Forest Recreation Area sites are Long Pool on Big Piney Creek; Moccasin Gap for horseback riding, off-road motorcycles and mountain bikes; and Bayou Bluff Recreation Area. Long Pool and Bayou Bluff both feature "old time" swimming holes and picniking.
