UN IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Looking for the great outdoors? We've got thousands of wilderness acres to explore in the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests and Flatside Wilderness. The Ozark and Ouachita National Forests both have back-country driving trails for exploring with your four-wheel-drive sport-utility or truck. All it takes is a sense of adventure.

If you'd rather stay on paved roads to soak up our region's pristine beauty, take Scenic 7 Byway, Mount Magazine Scenic Byway (Arkansas 309) and Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway (Arkansas 2I).

There are plenty of other scenic highways and natural wonders to enjoy that are listed in this website. Some of the prettiest bridges you will ever cross span the Arkansas River in our region. In addition to beautiful scenery, our roadways also take you through quaint hamlets and picturesque town squares - "Small-town USA" and past unique sights such as a Benedictine Abbey School.

How about taking the family canoeing or fishing? We've got the places, from float streams such as the Mulberry River, Big Piney Creek, Illinois Bayou and South Fourche River to great fishing holes that include the Arkansas River and Dardanelle, Nimrod, Harris Brake, Ozark, Overcup and Brewer Lakes. Many of those float streams listed previously are also great for smallmouth bass fishing.
